THE CROSS WITH ONE TEAR STORY

The story is told that there was once a missionary who knew that if he taught from the Bible they would toss him in prison. And, indeed, he eventually got caught!

While the missionary was in prison, the guard treated him terribly by kicking and beating him. But the missionary never quit telling the guard that Jesus loved him and died on a cross for his sins.

After many days, the prison guard reached in his pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper and tossed it at the missionary. The guard said: I’ll be back in the morning.  If tonight you can make a cross from that sheet of paper with one tear, I will let you go free. The guard left laughing because he knew the task was impossible.

That night the missionary fell on his knees and asked God to show him how to fold the paper so he could accomplish what the guard asked. Some think an angel showed the missionary how to fold the paper.

He folded the paper four times. And then he made one tear. (Make the folds and tear the paper based on the instructions above.)

The next morning when the guard arrived, the missionary showed the guard his cross. The guard could not believe his eyes and knew it had to be a miracle.

The missionary said to the guard, God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die on a cross. (Hold up cross.) And if you believe in Him, you can have everlasting (post the scraps of paper which are left from the tearing which spell.) “L- I- F- E.”

That day the prison guard fell on his knees and asked God to forgive him of his sins and asked Jesus to be Lord of his life. And that night the guard released the missionary from prison!
