ANCHORING BIBLICAL TRUTH: When The Body Moves, The Brain Remembers

To remember, an action must be used to anchor a Biblical truth.

Creative dramatics if an effective teaching tool because it captures attention and helps students remember. After 30 days, students remember: 10% of what they hear; 15% of what they see; 20% what they hear and see; 40% of what they discuss; 80% of what they do!

Every time kids move in an organized manner, full brain activation and integration occurs, and the door to learning opens.  When the body moves, the brain remembers!

Creative dramatics causes Bible stories and characters to come alive as information is presented in a transforming way! Children also become emotionally involved with Biblical characters. This attachment helps them experience the Bible characters feelings and decisions and then apply those situations to every day life.

Using actions when teaching Biblical truths creates enjoyable learning. Proverbs 15:2 says: “A wise teacher makes learning a joy.”

When using creative dramatics of any kind:

1. Plan thoroughly.
2. Promote involvement.
3. Praise repeatedly.
4. Participate with the children.
5. Peruse (examine in detail) pupils.  Know them!
6. Prepare questions for follow up. For example: How would you feel if your best friend needed help, but there were lots of people in the way? How did the man feel as he was lowered to Jesus while everyone was watching? How would someone who was listening to Jesus have felt about such a major interruption?
7. Pack ideas. Collect and file them.
