GOD IS WITH ME – David and Goliath
“GOD IS WITH MEâ€
The Story of David and Goliath
To make this familiar Bible story come alive for children, use this interactive presentation. Depending on the number of students you have, narrator parts can be combined or the skit adapted to your group in any way you choose. Print off copies of the script for each child to have.
(Have the child playing the part of Goliath stand on a table. Assign the parts of David, narrators, messenger and King Saul. Divide the remaining children into the two armies. It will be helpful for everyone to have a placard around their neck indicating who they are.)
GOLIATH (Loud voice):Â I challenge the troops of Israel.Â
PHILISTINE ARMY (Loudly):Â Yeah, Goliath!
ISRAELITE ARMY (Fearfully):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
GOLIATH:Â Send a man to fight me!
PHILISTINE ARMY (Loudly in unison):Â Yeah, Goliath!
ISRAELITE ARMY (In unison):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
DAVID (Entering the scene): Why is everyone so scared of Goliath? He’s just a bully!
ISRAELITE ARMY (In unison):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
NARRATOR # 1:Â David had just come to see how his three older brothers were doing at the battle and was delivering food their father had sent.
DAVID:Â Why is no one fighting Goliath?
ISRAELITE ARMY (In unison):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
PHILISTINE ARMY (Loudly in unison):Â Yeah, Goliath!
DAVID:Â I will fight him.
(The Philistine army and Goliath and the Israelite army all laugh loudly.)
MESSENGER (Runs to David):Â King Saul wants to see you.
(David and messenger go to King Saul.)
DAVID (Bowing):Â You wanted to see me?
KING SAUL:Â No, I want to see the man who said he would fight Goliath.
DAVID: I’m the one who said that.
KING SAUL:Â You are too young to fight Goliath.
DAVID:Â God will be with me.
NARRATOR # 3:Â King Saul wanted David to wear his armor for protection, but it was too big and heavy.
DAVID: I’ll be fine without your armor. God will be with me.Â
KING SAUL: All right.  Go. May God help you.
(David walks slowly closer to Goliath, and then stops to put up 5 smooth stones from the brook.)
GOLIATH: The Israelites have sent me a BOY to fight? I’ll feed you to the wild animals!
PHILISTINE ARMY (Loudly in unison):Â Yeah, Goliath!
ISRAELITE ARMY (In unison):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
DAVID: God is on my side. You can’t hurt me.
GOLIATH (Loudly):Â Ha, ha, ha!
PHILISTINE ARMY (Loudly in unison):Â Yeah, Goliath!
ISRAELITE ARMY (In unison):Â Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he is such a BIG giant!
DAVID (Swinging his slingshot in air slowly at first, then faster and faster):Â God is with me!
NARRATOR # 4: The rock flew through the air, straight at Goliath’s forehead. WHAM! The giant fell over dead.Â
SONG: “He Can Do†from Get on Board album by Mary Rice Hopkins. (Click on song title to hear a clip.)
He was an ordinary shepherd boy
But God made him a king
Great or small, He’ll use us all
Like David, I can sing
Chorus:
God can do, He can do
God can do anything
God can do, Oh, He can do
God can do anything
From the belly of a whale
Jonah cried, “Oh, Lord
Let me out, I will not doubt”
The whale spit him on the shore
(Repeat Chorus)
I’m an ordinary girl
But a child of the King
I cannot hide this love inside
So like David I can sing
(Repeat Chorus)
REMEMBER VERSE:Â “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
