JESUS IS OUR COMPASS

compass

When I was a little girl my family went to Disneyland on a busy day.  Thousands of people were everywhere.  With excitement-filled eyes, I was looking at everything and somehow got separated from my parents.  I was a friendly little kid, so I started telling people I was lost.  Fortunately for me, a tall man put me on his shoulders above the crowd to help me see if I could find my family. Eventually, they were located and we were all relieved.  I discovered at a young age that getting lost is not a good thing!

When people at sea need to know where to go, they might have a compass to lead them to a safe harbor.  A compass can also be a valuable tool to have if you’re lost in a forest.

Many people in the world have no guide to show them how to live.  Soon they are led into danger by evil.  We all need a guide to show us how to live and find peace and happiness.

God’s spirit is like a living compass which always tells us when we’re going the wrong way.  If we ask God to lead us on the path of everlasting life He will.

Discussion Questions:

1. What is a compass? (Instrument with magnetized pointer which shows direction)

2. Have you ever been lost? How did you feel?

3. How does God show us the right direction to go in life? (Through what He says in the Bible; speaking to our conscience)

4. What does it mean to be lost in sin? (Doing wrong things; disobeying God)

Action Step: Pray that God will give you an opportunity to share with your friends who may be lost in sin that God is our compass.

Bible Verse: Your hand will guide me (Psalm 139:10, NIV)
