JESUS IS OUR SACRIFICIAL LAMB – Object Lesson
Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool (Isaiah 1:18).
Materials needed: Ivory soap carved into shape of a lamb; bleach in a container; red food coloring; water; glass container.
Instructions: Soak the “lamb” in bleach right before the lesson. Pour a few drops of red food coloring into the glass container of water. Have the lamb and the container on a table in front of the kids when delivering the lesson. It is best to practice this procedure a few times before delivering the lesson to see what effect works best.
Lesson: Boys and girls, how many of you have ever seen a lamb? Have you ever had a chance to pet a lamb? He is white and all woolly, isn’t he?
Did you know that Jesus’ cousin in the book of John called Him the”Lamb of God”? Does anyone know why John called Jesus the Lamb of God?
What is a lamb like? He’s white. He’s sweet. Innocent. I think that’s why John called Jesus the Lamb of God. White represents purity, and Jesus was certainly pure, wasn’t He? He never sinned. He was innocent and perfect. That is why He was the only one who could be our sacrificial Lamb.
During Old Testament times, the Jewish people used to sacrifice a lamb to cover their sins. This was what God asked them to do. Then in the New Testament, God sent Jesus to be the sacrificial Lamb, who died for the sins of the whole world! That means Jesus died for you and me. He became our Lamb. Isaiah 1:18 says that “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
The lamb I have here today represents Jesus. This container of red water represents all our sin. Let’s see what happens when I place the lamb into the container. (The bleached lamb will slowly turn the red water clear). Just like this lamb turned the water clear, so Jesus, as our Lamb, will make our hearts clean. He will forgive all our sin and be our Savior when we ask Him into our hearts.
