LYDIA LEARNS ABOUT JESUS
LYDIA LEARNS ABOUT JESUS
Acts 16:13-15
This presentation may be done via Reader’s Theater where everyone sits in a circle and reads the script or it may be performed in the classroom or on stage.
Cast: Lydia, woman 1, woman 2, a group of women who are Lydia’s family members, Paul, Silas, narrator 1, narrator 2, narrator 3, narrator 4
At Rise: The two women are talking with Lydia while her family members are working.
Lydia: Purple cloth for sale!
Woman 1: All the shades of purple you have are beautiful!
Lydia: Thank you!
Woman 2: You dye the cloth yourself?
Lydia: I have family who work with me in the business. We extract the dyes from shellfish to use in making the garments.
Woman 1: I would like to buy these.
Lydia! Thank you and please come again.
(Woman 1 and woman 2 leave)
Lydia: We’ve had another good day selling. Thanks everyone for your help. We need to go home now. Tomorrow is Sunday and we’ll all go down by the river as usual for prayer.
Narrator 1: The next day, Lydia and the women went to the river as they did each Sunday.
(Lydia and the group of women are praying at the riverbank. Paul and Silas are on opposite side of stage.)
Silas: Paul, today is Sunday. What are we doing to do? There is no synagogue here in Philippi where we can worship.
Paul: Silas, I heard there are some ladies who meet each Sunday outside the city by the river for prayer. I think we should join them.
Silas: Great idea, Paul! Maybe we can share some things about Jesus with them.
(Paul and Silas walk toward group of women)
Silas: Is that the group over there?
Paul: Let’s go see. Excuse me. I’m Paul and this is Silas.
Lydia: Hello! I’m Lydia. These are family members who help me with my business of selling purple cloth.
Paul: Silas and I are ministers. Could we share with you about Jesus?
Lydia: Yes! We come here each week and pray to God but we don’t really know much about Jesus.
Narrator 2: Paul shared with the women about Jesus, God’s son, who willingly died on the cross for our sins.
Narrator 3: Lydia listened and opened up her heart to Jesus! So did the other members of her family.
Narrator 4: Before Paul and Silas left, they baptized Lydia and all her family. Soon Lydia’s house became a place of worship in Philippi and the church there grew.
Conclusion: Everyone sings “I Will Follow You” from Come Meet Jesus album by Mary Rice Hopkins.
Chorus:
Jesus, I will follow You
Follow You in all that I do
Jesus, I will follow You
Follow You in all that I do
I will follow You
Here’s my heart, so come inside
Take away my selfish pride
For my sins You came to die
I’ll walk with You, day and night
(Repeat Chorus)
Here’s my voice to sing Your praise
To tell the world about Your ways
I’ll obey You every day
Walk in love always
(Repeat Chorus)
