BALL PASS

Explain the significance of the Bible verse you want the children to memorize.  Too often children are required to memorize biblical words before they understand biblical meaning. Teach for understanding. In Psalm 119:34, David said: “Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” In order to live a principle, it first must be understood. Simply memorizing a verse with a principle is not enough; that principle must also be understood.

Print the Bible verse and post so all can see.  After explaining the verse, have them stand and read it together three times.

Then ask the children to sit in a circle on the floor or in their chairs.  Tell the children that when you say, “Pass”, they are to pass the ball to their right.  When you say “Stop”, whoever is holding the ball and the pupils to his/her right and left say the verse in unison together.  Continue until the verse has been quoted at least ten times.
